Intuit is implementing OAuth2 on December 17, 2019 as the integration standard for connectivity between Apps and QuickBooks Online, and while you as a QBO User maybe asking yourself “What does this have to do with me?”, the answer is simple. If your favorite connected App(s) has not made plans to change their connectivity to conform to the new security standard (OAuth2) they will NOT be integrating with QBO after the change-over next month.
Because Intuit is discontinuing all support for OAuth1 simultaneous with OAuth2 support integration this means that even though your Apps will still work independently on their own, non-compliant Apps will no longer talk to QuickBooks Online which means they can no longer send data to QBO or receive updated data from QBO.
As soon as next week you may begin seeing notifications appearing in YOUR QuickBooks Online ‘My Apps’ advising you that one of your existing Apps does not presently conform to the OAuth2 standard nor have they notified Intuit of their intent to conform and plans for doing so by the deadline.
Intuit is making this change to keep QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Payments secure and fully compliant with industry standards. So now is the time for you to inquire of your App Developer if they are fully compliant with OAuth2, if not, will they be OAuth2 compliant before December 17th, and if the answer to these questions is ‘NOT’, then now is the time for you to being searching for an alternative (but OAuth2 compliant) App to do the same job your current App has been doing!
What you don’t want to do is wait around till December 17 to find out that you are out in the cold with an OAuth2 non-compliant App.
