Have you ever had a client who just didn’t realize the seriousness of choosing the correct email address when signing up for QBO? It just happens. Part of the reason this happens could be users don’t understand that when they sign up for QBO the email address IS their USERNAME and all contact from Intuit will be sent to the email address they use to sign up. Including QBO security codes.
It's really pretty simple to change an Email/User name IF you remember your existing User name and Password, and you aren’t in a pinch scrambling to find passwords.
Steps to change User Name and Email:
1) Sign into QBO > Company Gear Icon > User Profile

Keep the user name and email consistent by changing both:
2) the User ID
3) and the Email Address

Forgetful or Quirky, that's the question?
Some people will want to blame QBO/QBOA when they can't get logged-in, they insist that they are using the right combination of User ID and Password. Then there are those who simply are forgetful, and can't remember their QBO password and Email password.
While Intuit will send you an email to reset your password if you forget it, if you can't get to the associated email then it may seem as though you are locked out for life. But, since I have had this happen to me twice, I thought I should share how I was able to resolve it. There are two different sets of steps depending on if an Accountant User has already been invited.
QBO User has already invited an Accountant User:
- Since the QBO user was already my client, I had QBO access and was able to create a new user with their desired new email address. This gave them quick access to QBO for emergency situations like payroll
- After the crisis was over and the user has access to QBO follow the steps below under the QBO User has Not already invited an Accountant User.
- Later remove the original user account, and
- Promote the new user to the Master Admin User

- When the sign-in does not work, select “help me sign in” (as shown above)
- Choose recover my account a different way (you cannot reset a user name by texting a code)
- There are two options here, either you will be asked to start the steps to verify user or the Contact Support options will appear. (Note: Either way, get ready for a long list of scanned verification items needed to reset your user name such as: driver’s license, articles of incorporation and bank statements. These security measures are necessary to prove ownership of the company and to gain access to the accounting system.)

Resetting a user name/email address is not a big deal if you remember the current user name and password. But it gets time consuming if you have forgotten both the QBO password and the email password.
It does no good for Intuit to send you a QBO password reset to the designated email address if the user cannot sign into their email account.
When that happens get out a puzzle and make some tea so you’re ready to sit down, be patient and wait for Intuit to help you get back to logging-in.
