Last week I wrote asking my readers about what they were doing to get ready for OAuth2 compliance... but now I want to focus this article toward the App Developers who read and many times advertise with us. This is because I want to know what they are doing about Intuit's looming deadlines for OAuth2 compliance?
Intuit is implementing OAuth2 on December 17, 2019 as the integration standard for connectivity between Apps and QuickBooks Online and simultaneously discontinuing all support for OAuth1 in order to keep QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Payments secure and fully compliant with industry standards.
If an App Developer has chosen not to become OAuth2 compliant their App will still work independently but it will be no longer able to send data to QBO or receive updated data from QBO after the December 17 change-over. Further, Apps that are not compliant will no longer be listed on Intuit's QuickBooks App.com website.
Hey, it isn't like Intuit hasn't tried to let everyone know well in advance of the deadline. App Developers and Users alike have known that the OAuth2 change-over is on the way. In fact, I wrote about this change in secure connection methodology a year ago right here within Insightful Accountant, and even discussed the fact that OAuth2 would be on it's way a full year prior to that, following a Developer Session which I attended at QuickBooks Connect 2017.
Well time is counting down to the deadlines, but it's NOT TOO LATE, if you are an App Developer, there are plenty of resources available to you via Intuit channels to help you with migration to OAuth2 from OAuth1 including:
And, it's NOT TOO LATE for you as an App Developer to 'Share Your Migration Plans with Intuit' using the link we have replicated for you: SHARE YOUR APP MIGRATION PLANS WITH INTUIT (You will need to log-in to your developer account with your Intuit credentials, please note that your credentials are NOT being recorded by Insightful Accountant).
Let me just say this to all our App Developers, we hold the relationship you have honored us with in allowing us to represent you in both product reviews like our First Look features, App Reviews, and other editorial articles as well as our App Academy and sponsored content with the greatest of respect. We feel like we have a very close and trusted relationship with you, and we know that you have worked hard in the development of your App(s) and your business.
But we also want you to know that Insightful Accountant has thousands of readers who rely upon your Apps, and we feel like we do represent the voice of our readers. We believe our readers expect YOU to do the right thing by them and to live up to your side of the bargain and that is to remain fully compliant with the security, log-in and connectivity protocols Intuit has established for QuickBooks Online. So, if you are NOT compliant, please make plans to fully comply by the December 17 Deadline, and if you have NOT reported your migration intentions to Intuit please do so immediately.
