We are using this QB Monday Minute to remind you of the upcoming change to QuickBooks Online that will impact all users of 'tags' within your QuickBooks Online data.
As of March 8, 2025, QuickBooks Online will stop supporting the use of 'tags'. regardless of the QBO SKU version being used. An option to migrate existing tags to custom fields was made available last month (February 2025). Last month also saw an increase in the number of custom fields for most QBO SKUs (Simple-start, Essentials, and Plus). For these versions the custom fields available was increased by one. The only QBO version that did not receive 'additional custom fields' was QuickBooks Online-Advanced which continues with twelve (12) custom fields.
The elimination of support for 'tags' has been rolled out to all QBO customers, and the same for the increase in custom fields (even if customers don't use tags). Custom fields can be used with both sales and expense forms.
Accountants and QBO users were notified early last month of availability of a tool permitting migration of 'tags' to custom fields. Optionally, tag information can be 'keyed into custom fields' by hand.
Users should take steps now to download, prior to April 30, 2025, reports that use 'tags'.
Between March 8, 2025 and April 30, 2025 'tag' data will be accessible only on a 'read-only' basis in order to give you time to view and generate reports.
Beginning May 1, 2025, all 'Tag' functionality will become inoperable within QBO; users simply won't have access to 'tag' information (in any format) after that date.
