Intuit has issued an update concerning the various COM Errors causing QuickBooks Desktop to shut down. Many such errors resulted from various updates to Microsoft related software which conflicted with existing QuickBooks routines.
On January 17th, Microsoft released a patch for Microsoft Office that Intuit believes will, in many instances, remedy the COM errors that have been experienced by users of various QuickBooks Desktop versions (2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018).
Intuit is recommending that QuickBooks users update their Microsoft Office versions to the latest release. They also advise that users may need to change to the Monthly Channel to make sure they have the most recent release. For more information, see the Microsoft site.
Insightful Accountant has published numerous articles about these COM errors over the past many months (even prior to that). Many contributors have posted comments on methods they used to rid themselves of COM errors. You may want to review those articles by searching for COM errors in the search box located in the upper right of our Home Page.
In addition, Intuit has updated their own Knowledge Based Article on these errors advising that if the Microsoft patch (referenced above) doesn't resolve your problems that you may want to follow one or more of 6 different solutions elaborated within that article.
