Laura Madeira is an Advanced Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor who produced the QuickBooks Desktop 2019 What's New and Improved blog article and PDF as well as instructed several webinars for Intuit on the QuickBooks Desktop 2019 product-line. She has just recently completed three high-quality videos featuring the 'mobile functionality' that is available with QuickBooks Enterprise Advanced Inventory including Mobile Purchase Order Receiving, Mobile Sales Order Fulfillment 'Picking', and Mobile Sales Order Fulfillment 'Packing and Shipping'.
The first mobile feature for QuickBooks Enterprise Advanced Inventory, Mobile Sales Order Fulfillment 'Picking', was actually incorporated within QuickBooks Enterprise V18, but it was enhanced in the 2019 product. Intuit introduced Mobile Purchase Order Receiving as a slip-stream enhancement between the release of the 2018 and 2019 products, but without much hype; it was also enhanced for 2019. The Mobile Sales Order Fulfillment 'Packing and Shipping' features were totally new for QuickBooks Enterprise V19. Remember, all of these features require users to have a current QuickBooks Enterprise 'Platinum' Subscription.
All of these features were designed around the Zebra MC40 mobile computer with a built-in barcode scanner, which was initially offered as a Motorola Symbol product until Motorola sold the product to Zebra. This is an Android OS based device, so the software will also run on any Android phone, handheld or tablet. If you use a compatible Blue-tooth barcode reader with one of your Android mobile devices you can achieve the same functionality as with the MC40. (Note: Within the remainder of this article we will use the term 'mobile device' to represent either the MC40, or any Android device with Blue-tooth scanner, when used with the Intuit mobile software.)
Mobile Purchase Order Receiving
This new feature allows the warehouse manager to identify a Purchase Order for receiving, assign the information to receiving personnel with a mobile device (or optional printed receiving receipt), and scan the merchandise directly into inventory with the mobile device (or enter the receiving information into the PO Worksheet if not using a scanner). The warehouse manager can then post the receiving information within QuickBooks as a completed Item Receipt or Vendor Bill. Laura's video takes you through the steps of set-up, configuration, and the use of this entire process, you will find her video here.
Mobile Sales Order Fulfillment - 'Picking'
While QuickBooks Enterprise (v18) with Advanced Inventory introduced a new Sales Order Fulfillment Worksheet that had an option to work with a Mobile Inventory Barcode Scanner to speed up picking by sending the orders to workers on the floor of the warehouse. 2019 (v19) saw several enhancements in this functionality, including multiple changes to the worksheet itself and the addition of several 'tabs' related to features first released in 2019. Laura's video takes you through the steps for selecting Sales Orders for fulfillment, assigning those orders to a warehouse worker using a mobile device, and reviewing real-time updates of the sales order pick both in-progress and upon completion. You will find the video here.
Mobile Sales Order Fulfillment - 'Packing and Shipping'
New for 2019, QuickBooks Enterprise (v19) improves the process of managing inventory by the addition of packing and shipping of sales orders for fulfillment. Designated packers can prepare the orders for shipping by capturing the details of packed contents, shipping weights, and packaging dimensions via a mobile device. Users can also coordinate the shipping functionality as part of this overall workflow because the QuickBooks shipping-manager has been linked directly into the process. Laura's video demonstrating the packing and shipping functionalities can be found here.
If you are a ProAdvisor who is in need of more information about these features, or who would to provide your clients with easy to see and understand information or instruction on these features, I believe you will find these excellently produced videos an outstanding 'free' resource. Insightful Accountant's referenced articles regarding these features can be found in the related links/features shown below.
