A reader wrote in to ask: "I was just at a client where we downloaded QB for Mac 2014 onto their new computer. When we ran reports, there was no ribbon at the top of the report window with options to filter, change header/footer, etc. I came back to my office and opened QB for Mac 2014 on my own MacBook, and the ribbon was there, with all the options. Any idea what could be causing this?"
Actually it was the Mac Report Toolbar that was missing from the report, and it really wasn't missing at all it was simply hidden. Of course when you need the toolbar you don't really care if it is missing or just hidden, if you can't find it, you just need it. The toolbar provides controls to customize (Options, Filters, Format, and Header/Footer), print, memorize, and export the report.
If you find the toolbar hidden you can display 'un-hide' it by following the appropriate steps based upon your particular version of the Mac Operating System.
OS X 10.8 and newer
- Hold the Ctrl key down while clicking on a blank area of the title bar, not the actual report title, then
- Check or Uncheck the option to Hide Toolbar
OS X 10.7
- Hold the Ctrl key down while mouse clicking on a blank area of the title bar, not the acutal report title, then
- Choose Show Toolbar.
OS X 10.6 and older
In the upper right corner of the title bar, click on the eliptical "pill button"
Depending upon your specific Mac OS, the appropriate solution above should resolve your problem with a 'missing' Report Toolbar.
