Back in September 2018 I wrote an article about the new method whereby QuickBooks Desktop 2019 was assigning firewall ports, which had been an issue for QuickBooks Desktop Networking for some time. The new methodology, of 'dynamic' firewall port assignment was to avoid conflicting port issues that had been a problem with various Windows 'services' (like DNS) and other applications.
But, recently some QuickBooks Desktop 2019 users have started reporting new problems with a loss of 'network connectivity' and when you begin exploring these issues it almost always track down to differences in the information within the QBW.nd file (Port number) and the Port number in the QuickBooks Database Server Manager on Port Number Tab. And, it doesn't matter how many times you 'Renew' and 'Rescan' using the Utility the QBW.nd file never reflects the correct Port Number.
Furthermore, you can manually modify the Port Number (by editing) in the QBW.nd and that doesn't resolve these network connectivity issues either. It seems there is another conflict going on, and one that I as yet have not been able to identify myself. I don't consider this a pure 'fluke', because this has happened quite suddenly to no less than three 2019 clients within the last few days and QB Support hasn't been able to assist them either.
If you have seen this, or better yet resolved it, let me hear from you by writing a comment to this column.
