During last week's QB Talks, a participant first asked a question about being unable to use the QBO App for their Windows Mobile tablet (apparently a Surface running Windows mobile OS) because Intuit had discontinued support for the QBO Windows App as of April 20, 2021, and what the best alternative was. Before we could respond with a discussion of browser alternatives, someone else asked why the QBO 'mobile' app was not current, which almost immediately began a point of confusion regarding the two different Apps.
We really were talking about four completely different Apps within about 3 questions... the QuickBooks Online App for Windows Desktop (which one user had intended to run on their Windows Surface), the QuickBooks Online App for Mac Desktop, and the QuickBooks Online Apps for iOS or Android Devices.
Despite the fact that we tried to clarify in numerous follow-up answers, the responses kept getting muddled as to which App was which, and so at the end of the show I verbally announced the 'Desktop Apps' had been sunset but the 'Mobile Apps' were still available, but somebody's last chat insisted that was not the case, as we were closing out the show. Several of our viewers have since sought clarity and we felt we needed to address this.
While the QuickBooks Online App for Windows Desktop and the QuickBooks Online App for Mac Desktop were sunset from support as of April 20, 2021, the QuickBooks Online 'Mobile' Apps for iOS or Android mobile platforms are still available and still supported by Intuit. While some of the QB Talks participants in the Q&A chain noted that the 'mobile apps' do not have all the most current functionality available in QBO if you log-in via browser, it should be noted that each of these apps is is optimized for touch interaction and essential on-the-go workflows.
If you are using 'any' mobile device, regardless of the operating system', and you don't feel you have the access you need to QuickBooks Online via the current method you are using then consider using one of the other supported browsers such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge or Safari.
Still the same, to avoid any further confusion, the QuickBooks Online 'Mobile' Apps for iOS or Android mobile platforms are very much 'still available' and you can:
- Install the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch app via the iTunes App Store, or
- Install the Android app via Google Play
And we are sorry if the if the Q&A chain created any confusion for any members of our audience.
