You will find the brief Inventory/Manufacturing App survey HERE.
To a great extent, QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise has relied upon 3rd-party apps/software to meet the needs of many clients with advanced inventory/manufacturing requirements. In fact, many ProAdvisors supporting QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise specialized in working with these 'industrial clients' and many software developers relied upon these ProAdvisors as referral sources and 'installers' for their applications. It was not unusual for a ProAdvisor to have perhaps a 'handful' of these apps as their preferred solutions: "complex inventory," "light manufacturing," "multi-location inventory fulfillment," "batch manufacturing," "sophisticated warehousing," and "heavy industrial manufacturing".
Even more than QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise, QuickBooks Online also has been dependent upon inventory/manufacturing apps to meet the requirements of many of their users. QBO ProAdvisors frequently find themselves in the position of recommending 'apps' from this category. Typically they find a comfort level with two or three apps based around 'cost,' 'ease of implementation,' and 'configurability'. They usually find that most of their clients will option for one of their ProAdvisor's preferences at least for an initial solution until perhaps they grow out of QuickBooks.
Over the last twelve years, Insightful Accountant has published features covering more than fifty of these inventory/manufacturing solutions. Some were solutions that have been around perhaps even prior to QuickBooks Desktop, others were the 'new kids on the block.' Some have been well accepted, others "not so much." Some solutions turned away from the QuickBooks community to focus on other general ledgers including those supporting larger clients than the typical QuickBooks customer. And some, "simply didn't make it," and closed their doors, as do numerous small software developers.
Nevertheless, Insightful Accountant has compiled a long list of inventory and manufacturing apps. We are actively seeking the input of our readers regarding your preferences when it comes to this category.
You can assist us by taking a few minutes (less than 5) to select your preferred apps, tell us what's important in making your selection, and letting us know if you would be willing to talk with a member of our staff for follow-up on any 'write-in' option(s) for apps we don't have listed that you might tell us you use.
