Recently QuickBooks Online made an improvement to Inventory functionality by allowing users to add SKUs to their inventory Items. When you specify a SKU for an inventory item (Gear > Products and Services > Edit), you can then add the item to a sales form by searching on its SKU.
New SKU feature for QBO Inventory
Once you have set-up your items with SKUs you can then enter the SKU in a forms' Product/Service column to find it. For example, here is a Purchase Order displaying use of the SKU.
QBO Purchase Order using SKU
Liz Scott, a QuickBooks ProAdvisor based in Oklahoma City who specializes in working with QuickBooks Online clients told us, "The New Inventory feature which allows look-up by SKU numbers has cut time and removed frustration from one Oklahoma City Business who uses their QBO as a selling tool for field personnel. Communications between the Inventory Manager and Sales staff was previously breaking down when neither could agree on what to "call' their items. The Inventory Manager naturally wanted to create Purchase Orders using the SKU, while the Sales staff created Invoices by Description, now both can work faster with the ability to use their preferred inventory terminology."
QBO Invoice using Description
We agree, the ability to use Product Name or SKU is a significant, but easy to use, inventory feature enhancement for QuickBooks Online. Way to go, QBO!
