Apparently, a lot of QBO users have complained about the Banking Center being difficult to use because it has confusing 'accounting jargon' (let's not forget that QBO is still an 'accounting system,' I guess it is too much for users to learn basic accounting...)? In a world where today's techy smartphone users are so familiar with bank websites, they expect their accounting bank App to match the way 'the bank does things,' not necessarily the way 'an accountant would want things done.'
In response, QBO has made the Bank Center 'more approachable' for users by providing more explanation, guidance and education on the Banking page. These changes began going live for non-accountant users as of February 11 (2019). Intuit is continuing to collect feedback from Accountants and Bookkeepers before rolling them out to QBOA users, but preliminary indications are that the changes may begin arriving in QBOA as early as mid-March (2019).
The image below summarizes the traditional Banking Center prior to the recent changes.
Traditional Banking Center in QBO
To effect the changes, these revisions were made to the traditional Banking Center:
- The 'Bank Rules' tab has been changed to 'Rules'
- The 'Manage Rules' option was removed from the Update drop-down
- The 'In QuickBooks' tab was changed to 'Reviewed'
- A new 'Take a tour' access point was added
- The Arrow and left Aligned Batch actions button were removed
As a result, the newly revised QBO Banking Center looks like this.

The 5 items enumerated in the list above correspond to the same five items illustrated in the 'new look' as well. So, there is one of these features you might want to be aware of since this redesign is intended to help 'educate QBO users' on how the Bank Center is supposed to work, and that's the new 'Take a tour' feature (number 4 above).
New QBO Bank Center Take-a-tour Feature
When you click on that link, you actually open a new window like the one displayed above that provides two options. The first option is a 'quick video' overview of the Bank Center and how bank feeds works. The second option is a guided tour designed to provide step-by-step guidance to QBO users on Bank Center functionality, including Bank Feed set-up and day-to-day use.
Insightful Accountant will stay on top of the transition of the Banking Center and keep you advised as/if (and when) any of these (or other) changes are made for QBOA users as well.
