Intuit has begun rolling-out the R12 release update to the 2016 line-up of QuickBooks Desktop Windows-based products (Pro, Premier and Enterprise). The following changes, improvements and fixes were made to QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2016, QuickBooks Desktop Premier 2016 and QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise 16.0. Later releases (ones with higher numbers) include all changes in earlier releases.
New and Improved Functionality
The Ctrl+Alt+Y keyboard shortcut has been added to enable you to copy any selected row of data within Estimates, Sales Receipts, Sales Orders, Credit Memos, Purchase Orders and Timesheet transactions.
You can then use the Ctrl+Alt+V keyboard shortcut to paste the copied data into a new row for Estimates, Sales Receipts, Sales Orders, Credit Memos, Purchase Orders and Timesheet transactions.
Functionality Change/Removal
Intuit has eliminated the user preference 'Keep QuickBooks running for quick startups.' There have consistently been a number of issues associated with this option that kept the QuickBooks application executable running in the background when QuickBooks otherwise appeared closed. This functionality was first eliminated from the 2018 Desktop product-line, and was removed from the QuickBooks 2017 Desktop product-line about a month ago in a maintenance release update.
Program Fixes
Release 12 reportedly fixes a pop-up issue which occurred while loading the License Agreement within Help.
Release 12 reportedly fixes an issue in the Invoice Center, Bill Tracker and Report Center which was resulting in QuickBooks generating an unrecoverable error.
Should You or Shouldn't You
The question always is asked, "Should I install this update"? So should you...only you can decide.
If you are having problems with unrecoverable errors then I would definitely consider going ahead and accepting this update when it is pushed out to you.
If you can't live without the ability to copy and paste transaction lines of data, then you probably will want to jump on this release as soon as you have received it.
If on the other hand you like keeping QuickBooks running in the background and using up valuable computer memory resources even when you are not actually doing any work in QuickBooks, then by all means just leave things status quo and never accept this update.
Otherwise you might wait a bit before installing this update.
Just remember, to always 'back-up' before installing any update, and if you don't want updates, then turn-off auto updates under your update settings.
