Even though there is a new method of setting a 'dynamic firewall' for QuickBooks 2019 Desktop versions, there is still a requirement that fundamental 'permissions' be set properly when configuring Windows computers to host QuickBooks Company files.
When working with a Windows 10 Computer acting as your 'host' QuickBooks Database Server, you need to insure that the QuickBooks Database Server (QuickBooks Database Server User) for Multi-user has the correct level of access to prevent issues with access to company files across the network. In order to configure access properly:
- To open the File Explorer, press Windows+E on your keyboard.
- Locate and right-click the folder containing your company files.
- Select Properties > Sharing > Share Add.
- Select QBDataServiceUser29 (this is the QuickBooks Database Server User for 2019).
- Set the permission level of both users to Full Control and select Share
Permissions Windows QuickBooks 2019
The same steps are also used for Windows 8 and Windows 7.
If your QuickBooks host is running on Windows Server 2012, File and Storage Services must be installed.
Share_Wizard
- To open the Run Command, press Ctrl+R on your keyboard.
- Type in ServerManager and select OK.
- Select File and Storage Services, then select Shares.
- On the Task drop-down, select, New Share. A list of File Share Profiles are displayed. (Note: The differences between the profile types can be seen by clicking each profile and reading the description.)
- Select SMB Share - Quick. (Note: SMB Share - Quick is the default profile. This selection may vary.)
- From the Share location section, select Type a custom path, then choose Browse to locate the folder you wish to share.
- Choose the appropriate folder and select, Select a folder then select Next. Note: You may leave the default selections under the Configure Share settings window and select Next again.
If you make certain that you have performed the necessary 'shares,' then you will go a long way at resolving networking issues just as long as you have also configured the necessary firewall exceptions as well.
