We’ve been telling you in the updates of other QuickBooks Desktop products that you could expect this update prior to year-end. Today Intuit has started rolling-out Maintenance Release 16 (R16) to the 2018 product line-up of QuickBooks Desktop. The changes, improvements and fixes elaborated below were included in this release for QuickBooks Pro 2018, QuickBooks Premier 2018, QuickBooks Accountant 2018 and QuickBooks Enterprise v18.0.
As with past updates, each new update including this one, also includes all the changes from earlier updates. If you have automatic updates turned on, QuickBooks will download the updates for you and prompt you to install it. So now is the time to turn-off Auto Updates if you don’t want to proceed with this update. Or you can manually download the update from the Official Intuit QuickBooks Downloads and Updates Webpage (product/version specific).
Maintenance Release 16 (R16) - December 2020
This update includes updates to 1099 Tax Forms and Bug Fixes.
Tax 1099 NEC and MISC
These changes are designed to comply with changes necessary for the end-of-year tax form reporting requirements.
- QuickBooks Desktop now supports 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC print and eFiling.
- Third-party applications can use the latest Software Developer Kit (SDK) to support e-filing of 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC forms for QuickBooks Desktop customers.
Bug Fixes
Here are some 'fixes' to those things that have been 'bugging' those of you who have still been using the 2018 product year versions.
- Fixed blank Purchase Order (PO) Number when exporting or viewing transactions on a report from the Customer Center.
- Values in the aging column of invoice related reports now show correctly regardless of Sort By selected.
- Certificate errors no longer show when using Business Planner.
- Login from the My Company screen no longer appears hidden by opening in the background.
- Switching between same year editions no longer prompts users to upgrade.
Should You Update?
Personally, I don't see anything here that won't wait for at least a week to give some of us the opportunity to hear what some others might experience if they go ahead and install. I mean you have been waiting a long time for these 'bug fixes' you can probably wait a while longer, to make certain nothing goes haywire with this new release.
If you aren't just in a rush to get to any of the few things that are outlined for this release, then you may want to hold off for a week to 10 days to see if others chime in with notes that they experience issues and that means you may want to make certain that 'Auto-updates' have been turned-off inside QuickBooks until you are ready to proceed with this update.
If you do proceed with updating to this new maintenance release, let us know if you experience issue by posting comments to this article.
