It is that time of the year when we can expect the supported desktop products to be having a series of release updates in preparation for payroll tax forms for the upcoming post-January 1 rush. As such, the first is Maintenance Release 10 (R10) for the QuickBooks Desktop 2020 Product-line which Intuit has just made available for manual download and which will likely start going out under auto-updates over this weekend.
Be aware, if you have automatic updates turned on, QuickBooks will be prompting you to install the download in the near future. That means if you don't want to install it, then you need to turn-off auto-updates now.
On the other hand, if you just can't wait to install it until you get the auto update, then you can manually download the update from the Official Intuit QuickBooks Downloads and Updates Webpage (product/version specific).
Release 10 (R10) - December 2020
The changes, improvements and fixes elaborated below were included in this release for QuickBooks Pro 2020, QuickBooks Premier 2020, QuickBooks Accountant 2020 and QuickBooks Enterprise v20.0. As always, each new update also includes all the changes, enhancements and fixes from any earlier updates.
QuickBooks Payments
- Improved an easier sign-up process for QuickBooks Payments
User Management
- Admin users can now request access for a Secondary Admin (Intuit account) role.
Taxes: 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC
- QuickBooks Desktop now supports 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC print and e-filing.
- Third-party applications can use the latest SDK to support e-filing of 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC forms for QuickBooks Desktop customers.
Should You Update?
This is always a question, I wanted to get this out to you ASAP, so I haven't even given it a test run yet. Therefore you are on your own if you do go ahead and get in a rush to download and install. Personally, I don't see anything here that won't wait for at least a week to give some of us the opportunity for test-runs.
If you aren't just in a rush to get to any of the few things that are outlined for this release then you may want to hold off for a week to 10 days to see if others chime in with notes that they experience issues and that means you may want to make certain that 'Auto-updates' have been turned-off inside QuickBooks until you are ready to proceed with this update.
If you do proceed with updating to Release 10, let us know if you experience issue by posting comments to this article.
