Intuit has just made Maintenance Release 12 (R12) for the QuickBooks Desktop 2020 Product-line available for manual download and that means it is likely to start going out under auto-updates over this weekend if not before, certainly not later than early next week. That means if you have automatic updates turned on, QuickBooks will be prompting you to install the download in the very near future. Therefore, if you don't want to install it, turn-off auto-updates right now.
On the other hand, if you are one of those people who just can't wait to install this update, no matter what it contains, good or bad, and you don't even want to wait for auto updates you can manually download the update from the Official Intuit QuickBooks Downloads and Updates Webpage (product/version specific).
Release 12 (R12) - June 2020
What's Important in Release 12 (non-italics), Editor's commentary (in italics).
The changes, improvements and fixes elaborated below were included in this release for QuickBooks Pro 2020, QuickBooks Premier 2020, QuickBooks Accountant 2020 and QuickBooks Enterprise v20.0. As always, each new update also includes all the changes, enhancements and fixes from any earlier updates.
Bug Fixes
I have noticed that Intuit now refers to these as "Issue Fixes"... you can't fool me (they are 'bug fixes')!
- Fixed an issue that prevented opening memorized reports created in QuickBooks 2018. Performing a Rebuild Data after updating to this release repairs the memorized reports so they can be opened.
- Fixed an issue where invoices would show incorrect balance amounts when a credit memo was applied and then un-applied from the invoice.
Intuit Account User Management
These requirements are getting harder and harder for businesses with multiple company files to manage, especially when some of those company files are infrequently used... it requires an inordinate amount of a business owners/administrator's time to meet these requirements just so Intuit can keep track of who is using which files.
- In QuickBooks Enterprise, Non Admin users with the Accounts Payable role can send a Request for Access (RFA) to the Primary Admin to join the company file Intuit account.
- Intuit account sign-in by Primary or Secondary Admin will be prompted while using Reset Intuit ID.
- The Intuit account will be disconnected from the company file for the QuickBooks Admin who:
- Linked the Intuit account to the Company File before Dec 2019.
- Hasn’t signed into the Intuit account for more than 180 days, despite three email reminders.
Discovery Hub
- A new way to explore the best of what QuickBooks has to offer. Open Discovery Hub via an icon in the top menu bar to learn about the latest and relevant features.
We saw this premiered last month in the release update to QuickBooks 2021... this is going to be the new preferred mechanism (at least for the time being) whereby Intuit intends to introduce new features and functions to users, and possibly even 'premier' (give peeks at) future features for the desktop products.
Should You Update?
I don't necessarily see anything that won't wait for at least a week or two (or a few) to give time to hear what others might experience if they go ahead and install it. In fact some of the items might very well be good reason to wait to update, or perhaps not update at all, depending on your point-of-view. If you aren't in a rush then hold off for a week to 10 days to see if anyone experience issues, so you may want to make certain that 'Auto-updates' have been turned-off inside QuickBooks until you are ready to proceed with this update.
If you do proceed with updating to R6, let us know if you experience issues by posting comments to this article.
