QuickBooks users will soon be, if not already, making use of a newly enhanced reporting experience. The new experience offers a more user-friendly interface, improved functionality, and faster load times.
All QuickBooks Online reports will be changing to the new enhanced experience in waves over the next several months. Unfortunately users will not have the option to switch back to the prior view.
All QuickBooks Online products users:
- Will be able to expand All and Collapse All;
- Will see less white space and more efficient scanning;
- Experience improved report personalization experience up-leveling visibility of customization options.
In addition, QBO Advanced users will:
- Be able to easily convert reports to charts and pivot tables, at will.
- Experience added capabilities to create complex, multi-line filters.
The first of these changes begins with all QuickBooks Online users starting to seeing changes in the ability to personalize reports:
- Intuit is removing the "Customize" button at the top of the page. In its place, "Group" and "Filter" buttons are being added so users can customize reports faster.
- Intuit has added dozens of reporting attributes and column headers so users can group and filter data to better fit the needs of your business or clients.
- Intuit has also added more ways for users to customize how data will be displayed, in order to display more granular information.
At the same time, QuickBooks Online Advanced users will experience the above benefits in addition to the following enhancements:
- The ability to create reports from scratch. Choose from hundreds of column headers, pick the data to display, and control how that date is displayed.
- Users will be able to toggle between Table View and Chart View to better visualize their data.
- Users can create pivot tables and choose from dozens of attributes to efficiently generate summaries right within QuickBooks Online Advanced.
Changes are beginning soon, in fact you may have experienced (or begin experiencing) them by the time you read this. In January, 2024 (not December 15, 2023 as originally advised and reported*), Intuit will be transitioning the following reports to the new enhanced format:
- Check Detail Report
- Open Purchase Order List by Vendor Report
- Purchases by Class Detail Report
- Purchases by Location Detail Report
- Purchases by Product/Service Detail Report
- Purchases by Vendor Detail Report
- Transaction List by Vendor Report
For example, there is a newly simplified and flexible view for your expense reports that allows you to customize, group, filter, and pivot purchase details in the way you prefer.

Then, with a change of the tab, switch from table to chart view.

If you experience difficulties with these new reporting changes, Intuit recommends that you click the 'Help' link in the top right corner of your QBO account. Then select help from QB Assistant, one of Intuit's QuickBooks experts, or the QuickBooks Help Community.
* - Note: Important Correction - Intuit initially reported that the updates would begin on December 15, 2023. They subsequently issued a 'correction' saying the report updates would not begin until January 2024. Further that reports would be gradually updated through July 2024, not July 2025.
