"Grrrrrrrrrrrr", is what you might say to the recently implemented 6 digit security code needed when logging into QuickBooks Online. Intuit recently enabled a new security feature which some users are finding cumbersome; however, with some tweaks, this security code can be redirected to a text message instead of your email. The biggest advantage of having the security code texted, as opposed to being emailed, is that most users keep their phones handy and therefore easily receive the texted security codes, just as commonly as they do from many banks that have included a similar feature.
So don’t growl at the 6 digit login security code, just turn-on TWO-Step Verification.
Who doesn’t like choices? Maybe it’s just a perceived control the user has, but when I have answered the phone from an unhappy user asking “how do I turn off the security code I get it Every Time?”, it’s the perfect opportunity to talk with your client briefly about security and then offer them the choice to have the code texted instead of emailed. This option which allows the User to influence how Intuit communicates with them is a win for both parties.
Turning on the Two-Step verification code is exactly like it sounds – so let’s be clear there are TWO steps to login. This feature benefits the user who is constantly asked for the 6 digit security code and wants to change the way they retrieve the 6 digit code switching from an email to a text. Some users are rarely bothered by this added security feature and so this two-step verification feature would only be necessary if they feel they want, or need, additional security control.
Step 1 - To get started use the Account Manager to login and control security setting: (There are several ways to get into the Account Manager but this is the best link for the Two Step – Verification) https://accounts.intuit.com/account-manager
Step 2 - Select the option to 'turn-on' Two-step Verification (as shown above).
Step 3 - Next you will be asked how you like to be contacted; this is where you choose text (Turn on text message verification).
When you click the 'Turn-on' button note that you are giving consent to receive a test message for verification purposes.
So you want to turn-off text messaging?
You do have the option to turn-off this form of notification. To turn off the 2-step security feature use the same web address for Account Manager > Security > Two–Step verification, and then select the option to "Turn Off"
Online security is not something we are going to get away from but we can use features to make it easier and adopt new procedures to incorporate this security to our everyday business.
