Intuit introduced QuickBooks Desktop Point-of-Sale more than 20 years ago to help retailers better manage their stores. However, the unique platform on which QB-POS is built requires complex maintenance and makes new feature introduction very difficult.
Consequently, Intuit has decided to discontinue QuickBooks Desktop Point-of-Sale 19.0 as of Oct. 3, 2023. In addition, there will be no future versions of QuickBooks Desktop Point-of-Sale software. Intuit also has decided it will no longer sell QuickBooks Desktop-Point-of-Sale to new customers.
As of today, Feb. 28, 2023, Intuit will begin notifying QuickBooks Desktop Point-of-Sale 19.0 customers of its decision.
In addition to the QuickBooks Desktop Point-of-Sale software being discontinued, the following connected services also will be turned off on Oct. 3, 2023:
- QuickBooks Point-of-Sale Payments
- QuickBooks Point-of-Sale Gift Card Service
- Mobile Sync
- Store Exchange
- E-commerce integration with Webgility
- Support Plans including Live Support (phone, email, chat)
- Vendor Lookup Service
Support for existing QuickBooks Desktop Point-of-Sale 19.0 customers remains unchanged.
Existing QuickBooks Desktop Point-of-Sale 19.0 customers also can purchase additional seats and hardware, and subscribe to QuickBooks Point-of-Sale Payments.
For QuickBooks ProAdvisors with a Subscription Bundle, which previously included QuickBooks Desktop Point-of-Sale, you will no longer have POS available. You will; however, continue to have support for existing POS 19.0 licenses associated with your ProAdvisor Bundle until Oct. 3, 2023.

Intuit and Shopify
Intuit is working with Shopify to provide an alternative Point-of-Sale solution. The option will integrate with QuickBooks Desktop financial software. An "early release" version of the QuickBooks Desktop Financial Software integration with Shopify’s POS solution currently is available.1
Shopify's Point of Sale and Payments solution enables you to manage both in-store and online sales in one place with features including remote access, enhanced reporting, a modern user interface and multi-channel selling.
Shopify will provide QuickBooks Point-of-Sale customers who choose to make the transition with a free migration tool, premium on-boarding, free 24/7 support, and exclusive software and hardware discounts.
While Shopify offers a customized Point of Sale solution that integrates with QuickBooks Desktop, customers are welcome to choose any other Point of Sale provider.
