The final SleeterCon took place the week of November 16 in Las Vegas. I say the "final SleeterCon" because Doug Sleeter announced the conference will be named Accountex moving forward. The name change is what appears to be the next step Diversified Business Communications is taking to bring some consistency to its expanding footprint in the accounting sector. I did not get an understanding of what Doug Sleeter's role is moving forward in the event. However, i am sure more will come to light over the coming months.
What surprised me the most was the growing number of General Ledger software companies represented on the floor. I found 12! In addition to the big names you know like Sage, Xero, Intuit, Exact and Zoho Corporation and the smaller but visible companies like Freshbooks, Kashoo Cloud Accounting, Wave and Accounting Suite, there were other newer (to me) companies on the floor like Gravity Software, Flare Accounting and Patriot Software featuring GL products.
There has also been a surge in the number of companies that want to loan you or your clients money. Each seems to have its own unique story to tell and ways they go about determining your rates, but these companies are filling the void left by the traditional banks. BlueVine, FundBox, Fundera, Funding Circle, Lending Club and OnDeck.
I'll be writing other articles this week related to what I saw and who I met at the show. Hopefully you'll find a new solution for you or your clients.
