In a recent article, I asked readers to submit stories of their migration experiences from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online. We have begun receiving those stories and will publish them regularly over the next few months.
These stories allow our readers to share their good and bad migrations, emphasizing any issues they may have encountered and how they were resolved.
Some stores will be shorter, and some will be longer, depending on how successful or messy the migration may have gotten.
This week, we have a "Best Migration Experience” from Alicia Katz Pollock. Alicia reported she’s “never (in fact) had a bad one (migration experience).”
Alicia writes that the Farmers Conservation Alliance approached her about the potential of doing a conversion. The Alliance is a non-profit construction contractor for projects bringing water to drought-stricken areas.
While performing a needs assessment on migrating from QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise to QuickBooks Online, she mentioned this was an opportunity for them to renovate their QuickBooks file with Projects and Locations, both features not present in QuickBooks Desktop.
The Alliance decided to overhaul its accounting to accomplish its reporting requirements. This would be more than a simple migration from Desktop to Online.
All of their QuickBooks Enterprise data had to be exported into Excel to accomplish the conversion with the requested changes. After export, changes to the data were made in Excel before importing it into QBO using SaasAnt.
Alicia reported that she dedicated a month or so of her time and charged $40,000 for the work.
Perhaps better than the project itself, Alicia produced a book on conversion titled Comprehensive Guide to Converting from QuickBooks® Desktop (QBDT®) to QuickBooks® Online (QBO®).
Insightful Accountant would like to thank Alicia for allowing us to share her migration story with you. We also think you might want to check out Alicia's book on converting from QBD to QBO, especially if you have a complex migration that requires data manipulation.
We want your migration stories, too.
The fact that we have started to publish these migration stories doesn't mean we've stopped accepting them or even have all we want.
If you have a QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online migration story, short or long, good or bad, please take a few moments to share it using our short survey page that makes it simple to submit your encounter(s).
