As with QuickBooks for Windows, (even though QuickBooks for Mac is inherently more stable than 'Windows'), it is possible for applications (software programs) to become damaged either during or subsequent to installation. Windows offers a 'repair feature' within the 'remove and repair' options of the control panel, but in many cases Apple has always recommended that users simply reinstall their software in an attempt to resolve issues. In some cases, a simple re-installation with overwrites of the files may resolve the problems, but in other cases it may not. When it does not, it becomes necessary to uninstall the software before reinstalling it.
In reality, there are a special set of steps referred to as a 'Clean Reinstall' that takes you through the process of uninstalling the software, renaming the residual installation files left behind by the uninstall process, and then reinstalling the software. But before you undertake these steps, you need to have taken some precautions when it comes to a 'Clean Reinstall' of your QuickBooks for Mac.
You should always make certain that you have either made a copy of your QuickBooks for Mac 'download file' or you have the documentation needed to access your Intuit account in order to download your current software. You also need to have your license numbers ready when it comes time to record them during re-installation. You should also make certain that you have the latest backup or copies of your actual data files safeguarded. While removing of the software should not remove or damage your data files, 'best practices' is to always safeguard them just in case something unusual or unexpected happens during the procedures.
