QuickBooks Database Quiz
I thought it might be fun to write an article as a Quiz over the QuickBooks database. I guess we will consider this an ‘open book’ Quiz since you can always research the various articles I have written to come up with the answers.
So if you think of yourself as a QuickBooks Master, then take this little quiz and see how much you know? I will be writing an article to give you the answers for ‘grading purposes’ in a few days.
- Since 2006, Intuit has used Sybase as the ‘database’ for QuickBooks; what database was used previously?
- QuickBooks provides two versions of the Sybase database server; the personal database server is installed when QuickBooks has been set-up as a stand-alone application. What windows process is shown in Task Manager when this server is running?
- The Sybase network database server supports client/server communications across a network in order to provide multi-user capabilities. What ‘windows user account’ does the Network Server operate under for 2014?
- What file records all of the database server’s activities (reads, writes, inserts, deletes, etc.) in machine language? (Hint: This file can sometimes be 'played back' by data recovery experts to restore missing data.)
- The QBWin.log file commonly refers to a source transaction as the “__________” record?
- “_________” are pointers used to provide rapid, random access to data within the database?
- In QuickBooks, the targetID and transactionID make up the “__________” key?
- These store data in a defined schema depending on their type, in QuickBooks each of them contain 4096 bytes, what are they?
- A “__________” always reflect a specific point in time when all the data in the database is held in the database file?
- What is the most common type of data corruption?
- Name the four most common causes of data corruption?
