We accountant types like to be in control, and since the breaking news at “Scaling New Heights 2017,” I've been anticipating the arrival of the new QBOA Apps Tab. You may remember I wrote a future-looking article on this topic shortly after I returned from the conference.
One of Webster's definitions for applicator is "a person who installs something." Control means we bookkeepers and accountants can be the “overseers” of apps, therefore, we need to take on the role of applicators.
With this new Apps Tab in QBOA, we can now be the supporter, mentor and examiner, as well as the applicator of the best apps for our clients' needs.
The New QBOA Apps Tab
(1) Access the new tab from within our QBOA dashboard
(2) Use the Apps Tab on the Navigation bar to see “Your Client’s Apps,” “Your Firm’s Apps” or “All Apps”
Apps Tab-2_01
- The “Your Client’s Apps” selection allows you to view a client
- If there are apps attached, a list will generate
- Each app on the list has an action for you to edit or disconnect
- From this same “Your Client’s Apps” dashboard, you can add apps for your client
Preferred Apps (top rated apps) have a new feature called a “Single user sign-on” This means an app side-drawer is available, making it even easier to add an app for either your firm or a client. At this time, all other apps are “referral apps,” which means you must decide if the app you're considering is for your firm or a client.
New: App side-drawer, Single user sign-on:
(1) Add an app for your firm
(2) Add an app for your client by selecting from your client from the drop-down menu

“Action Call-Out” – for Client Apps connected via QBOA. The action call-out allows you to launch, adjust settings, use support, disconnect and review the app.
Important to note is that the action call-out is not retroactive or available for apps the client or another firm member added. So, I recommend that when adding an app via QBOA, log in as the QBOA Firm Realm to add apps.
(1) Action call-out for client apps: Launch, Settings, Support, Disconnect and Review
(2) Apps others connected cannot be changed using QBOA
Apps Tab-2_03
The same “Action Call-Out” is available for Firm Apps connected via QBOA. The action call-out allows you to launch, adjust settings, use support, disconnect and review the app for your own firm.
Once again, I suggest using the QBOA Firm Realm log-in to add apps.

(2) Apps others connected cannot be changed using QBOA

Who pays for the Apps? Intuit did a fantastic job of answering this question. “The payment for the app is still handled by the app developer. It is up to you and your client to decide who will pay for the subscription (if applicable).”
ProAdvisors are the perfect applicators for guiding app selection. We can advocate for apps we know and believe in, and in doing so, protect of our clients from tedious tasks technology can automate.
All this app control takes place inside QBOA, which is now in one place for you to manage your practice and your clients businesses as well.
