One of the things I try to do every day before my feet even hit the floor is to find gratitude. And not the easy gratitude, the thoughtful gratitude.
I’m just returning from Scaling New Heights 2021 conference in Fort Worth, Texas. If you’ve not attended this conference in the past, I encourage you to do so for the following reasons:
- I would be amiss if I didn’t say that being with other people and getting a hug is my number one reason to go. There were so many hugs and reconnections and new connections at this conference. Coming out of the pandemic has made me realize the value of a hug. A relationship with another human being – – it is so powerful.
- Brainstorming and masterminding are a thing! It’s something that happens at an accounting conference. You learn, you collaborate, you share, you grow. With the variety of people who go to this conference, you’re able to tap into the most brilliant minds.
- Letting your hair down and having some fun doing something other than the books feels good! It’s a reminder that we shouldn’t spend our days in front of the computer. Well, it’s great to get work done, but there is a considerable value and walking away from the screen. When you come to the conference, you actually can be away from the computer quite a bit.
- It is finding new tech software! Oh wow, there was some good stuff on the vendor floor. I don’t want to name them all here because there were a lot of them, but some of my old favorites are evolving and getting better! Did I just call Liscio old? It is not, but it will connect to QuickBooks so we can invoice through Liscio, the secure platform. Soon they’ll be a Google integration. Exciting! We also found another vendor that’s got a way to tackle the issue of getting client bank logins—speaking directly one on one with the app developers and asking questions and some powerful stuff.
Next year we thrive!! I love the themes that the Woodard group puts together. These people work hard to present a great conference. I’m excited to see this will be next June in Orlando, Florida, my home state. If you are interested, don’t delay! If you want to share what you know, submit a session now.
And as you return to your respective offices, my best advice after attending numerous conferences is to let it soak all in. Sometimes you can leave a conference feeling overwhelmed. Review what you learned and implement just one or two things. You can always implement more later.
