Now that 2018 has ended here are some dates and tasks you need to remember as you begin the end-of-year payroll reporting process and your new year payrolls.
Before Your First Payroll of 2019
- Update State Unemployment Insurance rates effective January 1, 2019.
- Have employees to review and update W-4 and state withholding forms, then update their information in your payroll program.
- Review and update any federal or state deposit schedule changes.
January 31, 2019
- Last date to distribute employee w-2 and contractor 1099-MISC forms.
- Last date to file employee’s printed W-2s and contractor 1099-MISC forms with the agency.
- If you’re e-filing, you should probably submit forms on or before January 29, 2019 so they can be processed by the IRS due date on Jan 31, 2019.
- File other federal forms like 941/944 or 940.
- While most 'state' agencies with filing requirements have set January 31, 2019 as their deadline (due date) for their various end-of-year payroll-related filing forms, you should verify those filing requirements with your various state agencies well prior to that date to insure compliance.
Note: We have not attempted to provide any 'dates' that maybe related to any specific payroll provider or payroll forms processing provider you may be using. You should be in contact with those providers directly to find out their 'due dates' for submission or compliance filing requirements. For example, Intuit Payroll Services may have one set of dates for eFiling, but if you use a company like eFile4biz.com your dates maybe entirely different.
