The dictionary defines the word 'reminisce' as, 'to remember with pleasure, to cast one's mind back to, to look back upon, or be nostalgic about.' In many ways this article is one of Murph's stories about 'days gone by'.
With the roll-out of the R3 update for QuickBooks 2018, Intuit has added a new payroll report which tracks changes to employee pay rates for hourly, salary, bonus and commission payroll items on a historical basis. We have never had a report that allowed us to look at an employee’s history as it relates to the pay rates…..or have we?
Recently, I was visiting with a friend at QuickBooks Connect who remarked how excited she was about the new Employee Pay Adjustment History Report, and that it was ‘about time’ that Intuit had released such a report. That’s when I mentioned the QuickBooks Employee Organizer. Her response was, “what’s that”?
I went on to ask my friend, "you don’t remember that we had this built-in add-on within QuickBooks Enterprise called ‘Employee Organizer’ that tracked hire and fire information, raises and promotions, and even leaves of absence?" Employee Organizer also captured payroll data for your employees on a historical basis. My friend responded, ‘no way, I never saw that’.
I guess when Intuit announced that the release of the 2015 version was eliminating ‘employee organizer’ from Enterprise because almost nobody used it, they might have been right. Apparently nobody used it because, most users never knew it existed.
I on the other hand, had several Enterprise users who absolutely loved Employee Organizer and used it daily. In fact, one of my clients migrated away from Intuit because of the elimination of Employee Organizer from Enterprise. They insisted that they needed payroll and human resource functionality to go hand-n-hand. When you really think about it, the two do go together like bread-n-butter, or peanut butter-n-jelly.
So now, I find it funny that just a few years later, Intuit has built a new report that gives QuickBooks Payroll users the same kind of pay history information that employee organizer provided, along with a lot more information.
But, if you believe that such a payroll history report is essential to help your payroll and human resource functions, then you need to know that Insightful Accountant contributing author Beverly Lang has just had her article titled, Desktop: Employee Pay Adjustment History Report published within the Intuit Firm-of-the-future Blog.
I am confident that you will want to give Beverly's article a read, and also try out the new report if you haven't already.
Then, just contemplate all that you didn’t know you were missing without Employee Organizer.
