Intuit has just announced that the security patch requirement (TLS1.2) for QuickBooks Point-of-Sale that was originally mandated for June 18, 2019 (6/18/2019) has just been extended to June 25, 2019 (6/25/2019). This security patch is necessary to ensure continuous payment processing when using QuickBooks Point-of-Sale.
You must enable the TLS (Transport Layer Security ) 1.2 Security Update for QuickBooks Point-of-Sale not later than June 25, 2019 (the new date) to ensure continuous payment processing in QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale. Transport Layer Security is a cryptographic protocol that is used to increase security over computer networks, and it:
- is the replacement of SSL although it can still be referred to as SSL.
- It has been evolving as time passes to keep up with more complex security requirements to fix cryptographic flaws.
- The latest version of TLS is 1.2.
- Intuit is enabling QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale to communicate exclusively using the TLS 1.2 protocol for payments processing by making updates to the system registry keys that will ensure additional secure communications.
QuickBooks Point-of-Sale users WILL NOT be able to process credit or debit card transactions after the new date of June 25, 2019 if they do not enable the TLS 1.2 security update. In order to enable TLS 1.2, your computer's Windows Operating System must be Windows 7 (or higher) and your computer must be using Internet Explorer Version 8 (or newer) as your designated browser. (This does not preclude the use of other/additional browsers on your computer, but Internet Explorer Version 8 or higher must be the designated/default browser.)
