If you use a currently supported version of QuickBooks Desktop and you tend to use the 'Payroll Set-up Wizard' to handle employee, payroll item, payroll history or other configuration issues, you may experience an 'Error (Code) 05396 40000' while attempting to launch the Payroll Set-up Wizard.
This error reportedly impacts QuickBooks Desktop users with Payroll for Desktop only when they attempt to launch the 'Payroll Set-up Wizard', not other QuickBooks Desktop or Desktop Payroll functions.
In response to this error, QuickBooks has now pushed out a fix in a new Product Update. Users can download the fix from this official QuickBooks Desktop Update site: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/update-products/update-quickbooks-desktop-latest-release/L7qUzlW1k_US_en_US?uid=lr541tq7
Let us hear from you if the fix in this update does not resolve the payroll set-up error.
