As of the end of June, QuickBooks Online Payroll has begun offering the ability for new payroll signup users to choose to use Federal Form 943 rather than Form 941/944 during their initial payroll set-up process.
This enables agricultural companies to utilize all of the AutoTax features they would like to use—with the flexibility of handling payments and filings on their own, if they choose.
Agricultural companies that must file a combination of Forms 941/944 AND Form 943 are not supported under this new offering, as QuickBooks Online Payroll will only support the option of either Form 941/944 OR Form 943—not both.
This new feature offering is only available to new sign-up users of QuickBooks Online Payroll (Core, Premium, and Elite including Standalone). Intuit QuickBooks Payroll has not yet set a date when this feature offering will be available for existing QuickBooks Online Payroll users who already were configured to use Forms 941/944.
The new offering does include those who migrate their file from QuickBooks Desktop.
The electronic enrollments, including Form 8655 form, have been updated to enable enrollment for agricultural companies to allow electronic tax payments and filings.
The following tax payment changes have been made:
- Added 943 to current tax payment verbiage, with an indicator of 943 on electronic payments made to the IRS
- All confirmations and payment voucher copies for AutoTax Off companies now refer to Form 943
- Intuit processes for making payments for AutoTax On companies will remain the same
- Forms 943 and OR-WA should be available by the end of 2022 (per Intuit source information), which is the same timeline as the availability of other annual forms
- A running total for Form 943 in 2022 will not be shown in a preview (in subsequent years, the design should match the design used for 944 filers)
Image (above) reflects an AutoTax Off, but requirements cover both AutoTax On and Off customers.
The IRS requires businesses with employees to file federal payroll forms, including forms 941, 944 and 943. This Intuit information resource may assist you in determining which federal payroll form(s) you should file based on your business type.
