If you have QuickBooks Desktop clients thinking about switching to QuickBooks Online Payroll while continuing to use QuickBooks Desktop for their accounting, Intuit has streamlined many of the processes for migration.
Most QuickBooks Desktop payroll data can be moved to Online Payroll with a simple process after setting up a QuickBooks Online Payroll subscription and creating a payroll-only company file.
One example of how the migration has become more manageable can be found in the process for Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML).
PFML helps residents in certain states take paid time off work for family or medical reasons. QuickBooks supports PFML in 10 states, so clients can use QuickBooks Desktop and Online Payroll to apply the PFML deductions and file their taxes.
With Desktop to Online payroll migration now including additional information like Paid Family and Medical Leave settings such as year-to-date data, account ID and standard PFML rates transition to QBO Payroll without issues.
After migrating PFML data and settings, the new QBO Payroll users can run payroll quickly without correcting employees’ past PFML deductions or manually setting up PFML rates (only for NY, NJ, CT and DC).
Not only will migrating PFML data save time when running payroll, but it also will help prepare you for payroll tax time.
