Thousands of individuals fall victim to fraudulent emails, texts and calls from scammers every day. Many times, these individuals are asking for your banking information, using what's commonly known as "phishing" scams.
While these scams can result in significant financial loss, they can be prevented if you know what to look for.
The American Bankers Association (ABA) has developed a website aimed at helping individuals and small businesses avoid these scams. It all begins by learning that "banks never ask that." In other words, a bank will never ask you over the phone, in an email or in a text message for your account information the way a typical phishing scam is configured.
But the best part of this website is not just tips for avoiding scams, the site is packed with videos that show how easy it is to be fooled. This also provides you the opportunity to participate in a simulation to get the feel of a scam to see how you would react.
You can reach out to a lot of cybersecurity websites and security companies for information that's essentially the same as you will find in ABA site, but you may end up paying one of those companies for the information or having to hire a company as a consultant.
I'm not saying you might not need such professional services or consulting, but you may want to check out the ABA site first.
Just go to www.banksneveraskthat.com for the valuable information and resources it offers. Especially helpful are the Pro Tips near the bottom of the site.
