With the release of Acumatica 2025R1, users will see a more comprehensive integration of project-specific functionality with the field service functionality. When the Project-Specific Inventory feature has been enabled, the Service Orders and Appointments forms within Acumatica will fully support projects configured to ‘Track Project Quantity and Cost’.
When so configured, Service Orders and Appointments linked to projects for Inventory Tracking will display the serial or lot numbers in the Lot/Serial Nbr—column of Line Details for project stock items.
From Service Orders, additional details are available when the user clicks the Line Details button (as shown below).

Only the serial or lot numbers for the selected project stock item are displayed on Appointment forms in the Lot/Serial Nbr—column of Line Details. The list of serial (or lot) numbers available for the selected project-specific stock item can be assigned using the lookup table (as shown below).

The Details tab at the bottom of Service Orders and Appointment forms now displays the project stock quantities and free stock quantities of any selected in the table footer. This display uses a quantity/quantity representation in which the first quantity (to the left of the slash) displays the available quantity of stock items, and the second quantity (to the right of the slash) displays the quantity of free stock items at the specified location displayed on the line.

Consistent with these enhancements, Acumatica changed how field service appointments can be processed when they need to include stock items tracked by lot or serial numbers. Now, Acumatica Field Service allows users to ‘manually generate’ or ‘auto-generate’ lot or serial numbers for stock items if the Lot or Serial Tracking feature has been enabled.
To accommodate these changes, the Field Service ‘Appointments form’ now allows users to assign a stock item with lot or serial numbers when ‘track serial numbers’ or ‘track lot numbers’ has been configured and the assignment method has been set to ‘when used’.
Acumatica will automatically generate a lot or serial number for any stock items when the ‘Auto-generate next number’ option (shown as # 3) has been chosen. The graphic below illustrates the requirements (specified above) for a stock item’s lot or serial class settings.

These numbers appear in the Lot/Serial Nbr—column of the item’s line on the Details tab of the Appointments form. If the ‘Auto-generate’ option has not been selected, the user can still have the system generate a lot or serial number on the Appointments form simply by clicking the ‘Generate’ option within the ‘Line Details’ dialog box.

Several additions to the Selection area of the Line Details dialog box have been made to accommodate the recent enhancements. These include numeric values for Unassigned Qty. (stock quantity with no lot/serial numbers), Quantity to Generate (stock quantity available for lot or serial number generation), and Start Lot/Serial Number (t first lot or serial number per the stock item’s setting).
In addition, the Generate button allows users to manually initiate lot/serial number creation for a specified quantity of stock (as shown in the screen capture below).

So now, when using the Field Service features of Acumatica, you have enhanced functionality in managing stock items with serial or lot numbers, especially when working within Project-Specific Inventory.
If you ask me, that sounds like a great way to "Field Service."
