Someone today suggested that we have a 'desktop' version of what Kelly G is doing every quarter in terms of Apps for QBO. I must admit that I write a lot of 'App Aware' and 'First Look' features that generally do cover Apps that work with QuickBooks Desktop, and QuickBooks Online, but the idea of doing some kind of webinar about 'desktop (only/mostly)' Apps is an interesting idea. There is just one problem, there really are not that many new Apps being developed 'for QuickBooks Desktop' anymore. I would bet for every individual new App for Desktop there are about 20 to 25 new Apps for QBO. Still, we might be able to do an annual show rather than quarterly.
But when I really got to thinking about this question, I told myself that I should go out and try to find at least a few interest 'Desktop' Apps that are similar to some of those Kelly was discussing today in terms of at least functionality, and bring them to your attention in case you might not know about them. So here they are:
Sync WooCommerce for QuickBooks Desktop
This is an Ecommerce integrator that lets you sync your WooCommerce (shopping cart) orders as invoices or sales receipts into QuickBooks Desktop either manually, or automatically, as you determine. You will find them in the Intuit 'Apps for QuickBooks Desktop' Store at this App-card. You can customize payment sync settings and set a variety of 'mappings' of data so that you can control exactly how you want your order data to appear within QuickBooks.

SyncWooCommerce_QBD
And because Sync WooCommerce for QBD offers true 2-way sync, what you do in QuickBooks syncs to WooCommerce and what you do in WooCommerce syncs to QuickBooks. For example, if you edit a product or its inventory in QuickBooks it will sync back to WooCommerce in real time... edit a product or its inventory in WooCommerce and it will sync to QuickBooks.
In addition to accurately syncing over transaction fees to QuickBooks, the smart batch feature automatically creates a bank deposit in QuickBooks for each days' sales making it easy to match with your transaction processor's deposit.
Unlimited 24/ email support-ticket coverage is included with all licenses along with full documentation of the software. This is software you can learn and understand, and if you are a ProAdvisor, it's software that with a little extra time and practice, you can install and support under most conditions for your clients who are using WooCommerce.
This product also works with the Canadian and UK versions of QB Desktop, not just US version. They even have a version that works with QuickBooks (Desktop) Point-of-sale.
Pricing will vary based upon your need because they offer three 'tiers' that revolve around things like basic vs. advanced inventory, volume-of-transactions, and additional products (plug-in) requirements. So, for more details I suggest you head on over to their actual webpage for the desktop product.
MarginEdge
Kelly told you about a 'hospitality (restaurant)' App that would evaluate your food purchases and give some analytics along with interesting factors, but that App only worked with QBO. But [me]MarginEdge connects directly to QuickBooks Desktop or QuickBooks Online so all your purchasing data and daily sales entries can sync without any data entry on your part. That's why you will find them in the Intuit 'Apps for QuickBooks Desktop' Store at this App-card.
MarginEdge and QuickBooks team up to give you automated accounts payable and GL coding with automated sales entries created and sent from your restaurant's Point-of-sale system. Easily turn your purchase invoices and receipts, using the MarginEdge mobile App into instant data, they in turn use this data and the power of artificial intelligence to continually update item-level details on your prices and costs to update your inventory and recipe prices so you know your actual food and operating costs.

With your POS data plugged into the system, your revenues and cost data are then matched to produce real operating margin data that will give you 'the marginedge' in operating your business.

Projector PSA
Kelly also told you about an App she used with a client for the management of 'talent'. Well I didn't find that kind of an App in the Intuit 'Apps for QuickBooks Desktop' Store but what I did find is an App for management of 'professional services' at this App-card. Projector is a PSA (that is a professional services automation) solution. It allows you to enter time and expenses, review billings, generate detailed PDF invoices, and do extensive analytical reporting all while managing the related AP and AR with QuickBooks Desktop.

They say they will streamline every aspect of the service delivery of your 'professional service' allowing the organization/business to spend more time delivering services and less time wrangling with disparate systems. The Employee Dashboard provides easy access to all of the tools your team members need to deliver their projects. Quickly view individual schedules, alerts, utilization performance, or any number of customizable performance metrics.
Stay on the same page with Projector's project work-spaces, offering keyword search, version control, issues tracking, and many more features to help teams share documents and other important information. From simple to complex, Projector has tools to help manage any project. Create detailed task plans to organize and allocate work. Add budgets to keep tabs on project progress.
For more details about this very functional software head on over to their website. By the way, they also offer an integration with QBO.
This is where I am going to stop, this wasn't a planned article but a spur of the moment thing and I wouldn't want to take away content from any future webinar we do on this topic of QuickBooks Desktop Apps. Hopefully this has given those of you who attended yesterday's webinar, and had an interest in QBDT Apps, some ideas if you were not at least aware of these Apps, or maybe not even aware that Intuit has put a lot back into reworking their Desktop App Store.
And once again, if you attended today's QB Talks, thanks for being with us.
