Insightful Accountant readers are among the most 'insightful' within the accounting industry. It's not enough to simply tell them about an App (as in our App Aware series), or even given them a more detailed 'First Look' (as in our App First Look series). They want an analytical comparison of how various Apps stack-up against each other.
In response Insightful Accountant has initiated a new process for performing comparative analysis of Apps in the Cloud Accounting (and beyond) Ecosystem.
To kick-off this new process, we will be performing our multi-point analysis (kind of like the 'multi-point inspection your auto dealer or mechanic performs) on Apps providing 'Data Capture' which in any way automates the acquisition and integration of accounting data.
Your App might acquire information by 'sweeping' data sources (such as financial transactions from banks, credit cards, or lending institutions), it might offer direct forms of capture like 'snap' (photographic conversion) or 'scan' (twain, etc.), or scraped documents/emails, or it may offer more sophisticated forms of data recognition and parsing that turn raw data into meaningful information. We really aren't looking to segregate any such providers from this first round of analysis.
Our initial comparative analysis we will be looking at Apps that provide data on expenditures, payables, receivables, as well as 'other' beneficial data. All participants will complete the same survey, and the survey form will provide the basis for our 'classification or sub-categorization' of the entire set of participants into differing groups (as applicable).
While you may have had a preliminary contact regarding this undertaking, if you would like to participate in this specific comparative analysis, and you feel your App 'fits the bill' for what we are looking for in this survey, simply post your contact information within the comments section of this article, it will not be republished except as part of our final comparison(s). We will reach out to you with further details regarding this project.
