MISys Manufacturing has just revealed that they are finalizing functionality for QuickBooks Online integration and that’s ‘good news’ for manufacturers who are looking to migrate their accounting to the cloud via QBO. MISys is a manufacturing solution that has integrated with QuickBooks (Desktop), and several other general ledger/accounting programs for years. With more than 25 years of experience it is recognized as one of the leaders in the manufacturing add-on solution industry.
MISys is strictly manufacturing and the related inventory, it’s doesn’t perform any 'sales functions' up front, and you transfer your 'finished goods assemblies' back to the accounting software for invoicing. This way you are not really paying for duplicative features in both your accounting and manufacturing software.
This is not a totally new version of MISys running in the cloud, this is the same MISys software that more than 8,000 manufacturers use and countless QuickBooks ProAdvisors work with and support. So, MISys hasn’t really changed when working with QuickBooks Online it simply now offers the ability to recognize QBO as one of the accounting packages with which it connects and then uses the standard OAuth2 security protocol to allow the exchange of data with QBO just like any other QBO App across the internet. Other than that, there are only a few variations from the standard (MISys & QuickBooks Desktop) workflow.

Whereas you would create a Sales Order in QuickBooks Enterprise for transfer to MISys, in QuickBooks Online you initiate a sale using an Estimate, when that Estimate is ‘Accepted’ in QBO, MISys will retrieve the Accepted Estimates to create MISys Sales Orders. (There are 2 ‘Accepted’ Estimates in the QBO screen shown below).

As you can see both of the Estimates accepted in QBO have been sync'd and are now listed in the MISys 'Process Sales Order' window.

From this point you can ‘Auto create’ either a Manufacturing Order (shown below) or Work Order (shown in the following illustration) based upon the specific manufacturing requirements of the finished good(s) you are going to manufacture.

As with QuickBooks Desktop, when the finished good has been completed during the manufacturing process in MISys there is a step in the process that automates the transfer of the Item back to QuickBooks Online so that the product can be invoiced.

If you already have Products set-up in QBO you can import those into MISys and configure them as needed for more details, or you can create products in QBO from your MISys Items.. In fact, you can even create a new QBO Product from a totally new MISys finished good as part of the process of transferring that item to QBO for sales fulfillment.

While features not found in QBO like Serial/Lot tracking and Bin-tracking all take place in MISys the appropriate information flows into the description data on related QuickBooks Online forms (as shown below). MISys ‘jobs’ feature corresponds to the QBO ‘classes’ (just as they do with QuickBooks Desktop), and location tracking within MISys corresponds to QBO locations.

As if all of that wasn't enough, even the MISys MRP (materials resource planning) feature gets in on the new integration by looking at all 'Accepted Estimates' in QuickBooks Online in order to calculate what to make, when to make it, and also schedule raw material purchase orders needed to ensure that production stays on track.
Another great feature that MISys has adapted in working with QBO is multi-currency. MISys will automatically ‘once a day’ (or manually) update currency values directly from QuickBooks Online so that the values always remain ‘in sync.’

Whether your customer transaction is based upon foreign currency, or your supplier needs to be paid in foreign currency, MISys has you covered. Speaking of suppliers, they are another point of data exchange between QBO and MISys. You can easily import all of your QuickBooks Online Vendors into MISys as Suppliers. Any future changes you make in MISys regarding a supplier will update QBO.

While you will create Purchase Orders and receive them in MISys (as shown above), you will ‘push’ the receiving information into QBO for payment as a Vendor Bill (as shown below).

MISys will even create the Supplier in QuickBooks Online if the Vendor doesn't already exist at the time the information is pushed over for payment.
This article isn’t intended as a comprehensive product review of either MISys or their new QuickBooks Online integration, we simply wanted to be the first to make you aware of the new QBO functionality that is now available from MISys. If you want more information about MISys or how it works with QBO you should check out the MISys website or contact a MISys sales representative.
