Shopify has announced that they will 'depreciate' AvaTax for Shopify Plus on April 30, 2025. That means any Shopify store users who have relied on Avalara for their tax calculations will need to switch to a new "Avalara for Shopify" integration prior to April 30th.
Avalara's new Shopify integration will allow users to get direct support from Avalara because it will be an 'Avalara' product sold and supported by them. The new integration will support exchange functionality and partial refunds within an order. It will calculate global taxes like U.S. sales tax a
nd VAT, including B2B VAT.
The new integration from Avalara will also support Avalara Exemption Certificate management during checkout for tax exempt status and sales. Clients will be able to sync their product catalog information between Shopify and Avalara on a daily basis. Existing AvaTax settings and configurations being use by a client running the current 'AvaTax for Shopify' can be transitioned to the new 'Avalara for Shopify' integration.
