During QuickBooks Connect Robin Hall will be leading a helpful session for ProAdvisors looking for a way to understand Intuit Products and sell them to their clients. The session is titled, “Consulting Strategies for the Intuit-Centric Accounting Professional,” but Robin calls it“Navigating the big blue ocean or navigating the world of Intuit. One to figure out what’s there and two to figure out how to use those resources to your advantage and to your client’s advantage.”
Robin is the President and Principal Consultant for her business VARC Solutions, which she named after her and her family (Victoria, Alexandra, Robin, and Craig) so that she knows the reason why she works every day. At VARC Solutions, Robin helps clients figure out what their needs are (because a lot of clients don’t know what their needs are), does a lot of the QuickBooks training, does a lot of the QuickBase development, and runs the business as the manager. “So my job is everything (laughs),” she said. Robin is also certified in every product Intuit has (except for POS) and says that she’s done “every aspect of accounting” which gives her “a full body outlook when helping clients.”
Robin said, the main takeaway of her session for attendees will be:
“That they’re not alone. That they’re not out there by themselves. That there are resources inside Intuit and even though we’re a competitive market we’re also a cooperative market so they’re definitely not alone on how to use those resources.”
She also mentioned that the specific things that attendees will be learning are:
- What Intuit products there are (QuickBooks, QuickBase, merchant services, payroll, demand force, and checks) and how to help your clients with those products
- What resources are available within Intuit and how to use them
- How to deal with the resources (how to learn what the products are, how to get questions answered, and how to find out the pros and cons about each one of those products)
- How to take advantage of the opportunities Intuit puts out there (how to develop Intuit products and understand the client’s needs such as what product would be useful for their needs)
- How to grow your practice (Some of the things you should do, especially if you want to be an Intuit-centric practice)
And added that the session will be specifically helpful for Intuit ProAdvisors and Intuit Resellers because “in it we’ll be spending a majority of the time talking about the Intuit products and how to help your clients with those products.”
When asked how she got to running her own business, Robin said “I always worked in accounting, such as working for a credit manager, but then I started doing some book keeping on the side and helping people, until one day one my clients said ‘Hey there’s a lot of small businesses that need help you ought to look into doing that.’ So I went to the Small Business Development Center, talked to them a little bit, and started doing bookkeeping. Then a lot of my new clients would say ‘Can you train me how to do this? Cause I don’t want to pay someone else to do it all the time’ and so I started training people how to do it and started my own business.”
Attendees will also enjoy Robin’s session because of the personal experiences she’ll be sharing. She said, “The whole session is on how I grew my practice. So it’s all on personal experience. It’s all different stories that go along with it. It’s not a technical session at all. My reason for doing this is because when you’re growing your practice you need to have the technical knowledge, but you also need to have the knowledge on client success stories, client failure stories, Intuit success stories, and Intuit failure stories. You have to have all those things in order to be successful.”
Robin also makes the session more enjoyable by engaging with the audience. She said, “I’m very interactive. I like participation from the audience. Especially when we’re talking about consulting styles and things, I draw questions from the audience. I’m very energetic and I like the interaction.”
For those looking for an entertaining way to learn about the Intuit world, how to navigate through it, and how to use that information to become better Intuit Resellers and consultants for Intuit products, Robin’s session will take you to that next level.
