Terminate QuickBooks Running on a Workstation (Figure 2 above)
New for 2015, this improved feature allows the Company file Administrator (Admin user) to end a QuickBooks session on a remote workstation, even if there is unsaved data on that computer. There are times when QuickBooks users simply 'abandon' their workstations with QuickBooks open, and in some cases with unsaved transactions open in progress.
Previously there were only a couple of options for shutting down their QuickBooks connection; the Admin user could use the "Close Company File for Users" option under the Action menu of the QuickBooks Messenger, or the QBDBMgrN Windows Service/Process could be terminated breaking all connections with the QuickBooks file. The QuickBooks Messenger option didn't work if the user had a QuickBooks transaction open but not saved, and the termination of the QBDBMgrN option was somewhat risky if a transaction was open because it could result in corrupted data.
The Admin user has a new QuickBooks Messenger option in all version of QuickBooks 2015 that reads “Close even if users have unsaved data”. My understanding is that this new process permits the shutdown to occur normally resulting in the transaction to be saved at the point at which it exists, or the point at which it was last 'in balance'. The Admin user must confirm that they indeed want to close the workstation(s).
Remember you can receive training on this new feature and everything in the various versions of QuickBooks for 2015 at the Intuit QuickBooks Accounting Virtual Conference to be held on September 22 and 23, 2014. See the website for more information or register here.
