Helping You Understand QuickBooks/Excel Integration, QuickBooks Inventory, and QuickBooks Data File Management: Three Learning Sessions with Mario Nowogrodzki, CPA/CITP
One nagging question that you may have when you’re reviewing the QuickBooks Connect sessions to choose what to attend may be ‘will I be able to understand what they’re teaching?’ You may be interested in a certain session or sessions, but if you feel like the concepts are too complex then that could lead you to choose something else. However, that could also lead you to missing out on what could be an incredibly interesting and useful learning opportunity.
Three sessions that may sound complex in their descriptions, but are really not are taught by Mario Nowogrodzki: “Making the Most of the QuickBooks/Excel Integration,” “Mastering QuickBooks Inventory,” and “QuickBooks Data File Management.” Mario Nowogrodzki was named an Intuitive Accountant Top 100 ProAdvisor for 2014 and is a nationwide name in QuickBooks, an expert in information technology, and principal of Mendelson Consulting, where clients are provided a solution-based approach to help fulfill their specific and individual needs. What makes Mario stand out is not just his extremely effective consulting and teaching, but his ability to explain complicated information and processes in clear language (non-technical terms) and create positive relationships because of it.
When asked to explain this, Mario said, “I’ve seen trainers talk over people’s heads. They’re full of information, but sometimes don’t know how to convey it effectively. So what I want to do is make sure people not only feel like we’re on the same level, but also that they’re able to learn what I’m teaching.” And it’s because of this choice that the material in these sessions will not only be more easily understood by a broad range of attendees, but that the learning will become more enjoyable as well.
Mastering the Most of the QuickBooks/ Excel Integration
The first of the sessions that Mario will be teaching is “Mastering the Most of the QuickBooks/ Excel Integration,” where anyone using QuickBooks that needs to manipulate or analyze data or reports will be able to:
- learn the best practices (best things to do when it comes to QuickBooks and Excel)
- learn how to make the best use of the QuickBooks and Excel integration for reporting and analytics
While the session content is still being finalized, Mario explained that the main point of this session would be to help people “so that they can finally, once and for all use Excel with QuickBooks as it was intended and so that they can do less work manually.”
Mario went on to say, “I see way too many people, clients, accountants or non-accountants, who don’t know what they can do with QuickBooks with Excel and after I teach them they say ‘I didn’t know I could this with QuickBooks and Excel. I always had to do this manually.’ So people who attend this session will learn how they can take advantage of Excel integration and save a lot more time.”
Mastering QuickBooks Inventory
Mario’s second session is “Mastering QuickBooks Inventory,” where anybody who wants to know everything there is to know about inventory in QuickBooks will be able to:
- learn about QuickBooks Inventory (attendees will learn in depth about the inventory functions in QuickBooks Enterprise Enhanced Inventory Receiving and QuickBooks Enterprise Advanced Inventory)
- have their most intricate QuickBooks Inventory questions answered
- learn when they need to step out beyond QuickBooks (which is important to know because it can save you from trying to do things in QuickBooks that you can’t)
So basically, those with an interest in QuickBooks Inventory can come and learn the easiest ways of using it for their business or for working with their clients.
QuickBooks Data File Management
The third session that Mario will be teaching is “QuickBooks Data File Management,” where anyone interested in using QuickBooks will be able to:
- learn what built-in-tools are available in QuickBooks for data file maintenance and file size considerations
- learn how to maximize the use of these built-in-tools —tips and tricks on improving performance of QuickBooks, how to speed up QuickBooks, and help with troubleshooting
- learn how to use the information from this session to communicate with IT professionals
Mario said that the third point above will be especially beneficial to attendees because “one thing is very true: if you, the accounting professional, can talk in the correct terms to the IT person, they’re going to pay attention; they’re not going to talk above your head.”
Mario explained further: “What I always say to accounting professionals in the room is ‘I know you may not be the one implementing these different things in the QuickBooks database that I’m teaching you here, but you will want to understand the terminology and the language. So that then you can at least speak intelligently to your IT people. And that’s the point of this class. To teach the concepts so that you can implement them or you can talk clearly to an IT professional for them to do it. It’s very different to say to the IT person ‘hey I know I need to do this, can you help me with it or can you do it for me’ as compared to not knowing what to ask for and saying ‘hey IT guy, this is broken, fix it.’
Therefore, people that attend this session will benefit from understanding the terminology they learn about data file management because it can help both improve their technical knowledge and their being understood by IT professionals.
Attendees will also benefit by going to these sessions because they’ll be able to connect openly with Mario:
Mario said, “I always like to engage an audience. I make a statement at the beginning of my sessions. ‘I am only one of X (number) people in the room. I need your questions, your comments, I do not mind interruptions, in fact I encourage interruptions. I don’t want any question to go unasked.’”
Mario also engages with the audience by using visuals and graphics, which he says, “are worth a thousand words.” When asked to share one of the visuals he would be using in his upcoming sessions, he provided us with two (both are attached to this article). The first graphic is from the “Mastering QuickBooks Inventory” session —a large warehouse with two people in yellow walking around, and Mario explained, “Here is where I put a big arrow pointing to those people and I say ‘This is going to be you by the end of the class. You’re going to be able to understand how to manage all this around you in QuickBooks.’
The second image is from the “QuickBooks Data File Management” session—a computer with different tools popping out in front of it, which Mario explained was to demonstrate the readily available tools that are at your fingertips when you’re using QuickBooks.’ Both of these graphics demonstrate how Mario takes the concepts in his sessions and finds different ways to drive a point and help the audience understand what they’re learning. That’s what you want from an effective instructor.
Whether you’re curious about these topics or there’s more you want to find out about them, Mario will not only give you the information you need, but will also make it entertaining and show you how to use it to make your life easier and more effective.
