Intuitive Accountant hosted a webinar on Sales Tax Troubleshooting today (6/10/15), and the most common question asked during both offering times was related to 'when and what is Murph teaching as Scaling New Heights?" It is true, I will be teaching 2 courses this year, and also be Hosting and Moderating a Panel Discussion. So in case you are interested in attending one of my courses, here are some expanded summaries for each class.
QuickBooks Desktop Database Essentials
Sunday, June 21, 2015
12:00 PM till 1:40 PM
.
This course serves as an introduction to the QuickBooks Desktop database, including an overview of “how QuickBooks works.”
We will examine how the various database components of Company file, database server, cache memory and the QuickBooks application work together to not only provide you with an accounting system but also help insure the integrity and reliability of your financial data.
The class will look at the structure of QuickBooks data and data‐table relationships, as well as the concepts of Master and Target records, and database indexes. When you read the QBWin.log file and it mentions a specific referenceid or record number, do you know how to identify the exact transaction or list component mentioned?
We will examine how QuickBooks' use of RAM Cache determines the performance of the QuickBooks application and aids in providing redundancy features like the QBW.tlg (transaction log) file. Did you know that the transaction log can ‘turn a bad file’ into a successful data recovery?
The class will also examine QuickBooks database corruption, its forms, causes, and diagnostics along with both QuickBooks (internal) and professional repair methodologies. Do you know the number 1 type of corruption? How about the difference between disk fragmentation and database fragmentation? We will not only identify the most common causes of database corruption, but learn some key steps you can take to reduce these causes and help preserve your QuickBooks data.
We will examine the relationship between the QuickBooks Verify/Rebuild utilities and the QBWin.log file, and we will learn to recognize 6 ‘true’ and 1 ‘false’ LVL_Error QBWin.log messages.
Most importantly we will identify “when” and “how” to ‘ask for help’ in cases of corruption, and look at reliable resources available you may not have even known existed.
QuickBooks Desktop Super-Geek
Wednesday, June 24, 2015:
12:10 PM till 1:50 PM
.
This course expands upon the principles instructed in QuickBooks Database Essentials. (But the Database Essentials class is NOT a prerequisite for this class.)
Have you ever played the Game of Clue? Remember how you played it, you had to fit the various clues together in order to determine ‘who dun it’. In this course we will be working through various QuickBooks problems using this same principle, a process I have stolen from the ‘medical community’ called “differential diagnosis” will allow us to examine QuickBooks problems from both a ‘crime scene’ and ‘major illness’ perspective. In other words, "the game is afoot" as Sherlock Holmes would say it.
The course will also provide an in-depth look at the QBWin.log file and the various diagnostic and error messaging the log provides. You are probably better equipped to attend this class if you watch all those CSI (Crime Scene Investigator) Shows on television than if you have read the entire Intuit Support Site Knowledge Base back to front.
We will examine the various tools available for analysis of QuickBooks problems, and while the QBWin.log’s error messages serve as your basic outline, they are only the starting point, not the end of our game. The class will look at other key indicators, time measures, non-diagnostic and diagnostic events built into the log that many ProAdvisors simply never knew existed and thus almost always overlook.
Using case studies we will examine various techniques for differentially diagnosing the causes of QuickBooks problems ranging from poor performance to scrambled data. Potential resolution and repair steps for data corruptions identified in the QBWin.log file will also be discussed. If you have an unsolved QBWin.log file, bring it for discussion during Questions & Answers, or after the session.
In addition to the above two courses I will also be hosting and moderating the following panel discussion:
