Do you have any idea how many ‘year-end’ payroll forms are filed incorrectly each year? How about the number of payroll forms that must be re-submitted with corrections? Do you know what the single most common end-of-the-year payroll form error is? Well the answers to these questions are: “A bunch”, “a lot”, and “mismatched names and social security numbers.”
Yes that is right, the number one payroll-related filing error is simply getting the wrong social security number onto a form with the wrong name. Did you know that it has sometimes taken ‘our government’ years to catch these errors?
It is up to us, as ‘trusted advisors’ to our clients, to assist them in their year-end payroll process to insure that they don’t make the types of errors that necessitate re-filing of corrected year-end forms.
Payroll at year-end involves diagnosing the symptoms of the most common payroll errors that can lead to improper reporting, and then applying appropriate techniques to resolve mistakes when identified. Most payroll at year-end mistakes are simply the result of failure to take the proper steps to insure the accuracy of your payroll information and verify the various wages, withholding taxes and employer matching contributions.
In this webinar, Laura Madeira, the “Queen of QuickBooks”, will take us through the process of ‘payroll at year-end’ covering areas like: verifying payroll preferences and payroll item set-up, confirming the accuracy of each employee’s payroll record, using payroll reports to determine the accuracy of payroll transactions, insuring the proper payment of all payroll liabilities, and confirming that payroll related sub-ledgers (using payroll item reports) match the amounts shown in the general ledger (on the P&L and Balance Sheet reports). She will also guide us through troubleshooting and resolution of erroneous data that can impact end-of-the-year filings.
You won’t want to miss this important end-of-the ‘payroll year’ webinar scheduled for 1:00 PM EST on January 6, 2016, with an encore at 6:00 PM EST January 6, 2016. Space is limited, so be sure to ‘sign-up’ today if you haven’t already pre-enrolled for all of our QB Talks webinars.
