Amazon Web Services
In this session, Victor Nahigian, will guide you through the process of creating a virtual server, configuring it as a Windows workstation and installing QuickBooks. In just 100-minutes you will see QuickBooks hosted on Amazon servers and fully functional in a virtual environment.
QuickBooks on Amazon Servers
Amazon Web Services is an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) product that allows you to purchase and configure virtual computers, servers or entire networks without the need to purchase or configure any local hardware. Hosting client files on Amazon Web Services empowers you to serve as the outsourced IT consultant for your clients (with minimal IT knowledge or experience) while having anywhere, anytime access to your client’s QuickBooks data.
For the ‘techy ProAdvisors in this bunch’, it works like this; Amazon lets you provision a logically isolated section of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud where you can launch AWS resources in a virtual network that you define. You have complete control over your virtual networking environment, including selection of your own IP address range, creation of subnets, and configuration of route tables and network gateways. With Amazon VPC, you can:
- Create an Amazon Virtual Private Cloud on AWS's scalable infrastructure, and specify its private IP address range from any range you choose.
- Divide your VPC’s private IP address range into one or more public or private subnets to facilitate running applications and services in your VPC.
- Control inbound and outbound access to and from individual subnets using network access control lists.
- Store data in Amazon S3 and set permissions such that the data can only be accessed from within your Amazon VPC.
- Assign multiple IP addresses and attach multiple elastic network interfaces to instances in your VPC.
- Attach one or more Amazon Elastic IP addresses to any instance in your VPC so it can be reached directly from the Internet.
- Bridge your VPC and your onsite IT infrastructure with an encrypted VPN connection, extending your existing security and management policies to your VPC instances as if they were running within your infrastructure.

“I can hardly believe Victor is going to get all of this done in just 100-minutes; you can hardly define all the acronyms in that length of time; but ‘the magic of Disney can make anything happen’…Mickey must have given Victor his magic wand!” (Murph)
