More than 1,400 certified public accountants and tax professionals attended the 65th Annual Tax Conference (TAX19) Nov. 18–19 at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Hosted by the Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants (MNCPA), TAX19 is one of the largest and most reputable educational events of its kind, attracting professionals and speakers from across the country.
IRS Commissioner Charles P. Rettig opened TAX19 with his vision for improving tax administration at the federal agency, including his implementation of the IRS Integrated Modernization Business Plan. TAX19’s closing keynote was Retired Associate Justice Alan C. Page, who shared experiences from his multifaceted career, from the NFL to the Minnesota Supreme Court, to the creation of the Page Education Foundation.
TAX19 offered more than 50 breakout sessions, including federal and state tax highlights, how emerging technologies are affecting accounting practices, strategies for recruiting and retaining staff, and career and business development tips for professionals at all levels. A bonus session on advisory services, led by Thomson Reuters, was offered to attendees for a free continuing education credit the morning of Nov. 19. In addition, attendees were invited to attend happy hour on Nov. 18 to network with fellow attendees and to enjoy complimentary food and beverages.
