We start our practices with a skill set and our strengths. Our belief is that we will provide services A, B and C founded on our education, certification and experience. It starts at a slow pace, one to three clients that tug at you, inch by inch, and pull you in another direction and away from your core.
You realize that you need more and more tips and tools to make it through another client challenge.
You put hours and hours into subject matter that is not your own.
You have dug a hole and it’s time to climb out of it, focus on who you are and what client is a good fit for you.
Time to rise up and hone in on your core services and identify your true calling. Dig into your client list and see what industries you serve with ease. And then start your journey to the top.
This preparation is an integral part of your social media strategy. Quickly and succinctly, your company must convey who it is, what it does, how it does it, and why it does it. You have precious little time to present this message to the outside world. Those who find you will make a decision before even giving you a call.
It doesn’t stop there, for this is not a bunny hill that you are climbing. It is scaling a mountain. It requires training, gear, a guide and a plan for pulling together your company’s social media strategy. Then, it requires mental courage and discipline.
This is what it takes to face the challenge of being consistent and relevant.
In 2008, I started my social media journey as a partner in another company. When I became the sole owner, I faced the biggest challenge of all. Leaving behind who I was and searching for what I was to become as a leader.
I was at the bottom of the mountain with no guide. Then I became a member of NAN, a community of professionals that gave me the support, training, tools and insights I needed to take a step up. By attending the Woodard Institute and learning more about how to become intentional in my practice, I became even more focused on my journey.
I’m blessed to lead other practitioners in their social media journey at this year’s "Scaling New Heights" conference. I hope to provide insight on the different social media channels and give them the tools that they need to face the challenges of this ever-changing medium.
As professionals, we all have a story and a journey filled with experiences that can be shared with our friends, our clients and our community. We can inspire followers or call prospects to action. Let’s be bold and brave and shout out our best stories of success and failure. You will be heard.
You can find more details about each of the sessions in a downloadable document located here: Download Course Descriptions.
