Have you seen the movie The Bucket List? Morgan Freeman talks to Jack Nicholson about generating a “bucket list” – a list of things you want to do before you die. Some of the things on the bucket lists in the movie include:
- Witness something truly majestic
- Kiss the most beautiful girl in the world
- Laugh till I cry
- Go skydiving
- Help a complete stranger for the common good
- Spend a week at the Louvre
So how could you apply this to your business? Create a bucket list of things you’d like to do in your business. It will get you thinking bigger than our daily routine and remembering the dreams you have for your business that you may not have thought of for a while. Here are some ideas:
- Get the client of your dreams.
- Have a weekly fun activity in your business where everyone can let off steam and have a little fun.
- Go on a business trip or to a conference you’ve never been to before.
- Mentor a young entrepreneur.
- Create a job for someone who needs it.
So sit down with your favorite brew at your favorite time of day, and crank out your own bucket list. After you’ve completed your business bucket list, you may want to do a bucket list for your personal life, a “couple’s bucket list,” or a “family bucket list” also. Here are some questions to get you started on either list:
- What will you regret not doing in your lifetime?
- What activities and goals are lined up with your business passions and purpose?
- What have you always wanted to do in business since you were a little kid?
- What big event will you thoroughly enjoy doing?
- What memory will you treasure, having accomplished the activity behind it?
Now, take a risk, and schedule one step toward getting one item done on your list. Keep your bucket list posted in a prominent place to help you remember and anticipate these great things you want to do.
