From a childhood in the South to a career in Silicon Valley, I’m a Financial Controller and IT Manager turned Cloud Accounting advocate and app designer. My accounting career began as the internet was taking hold in the small business community. Email communication was becoming popular and green screens were changing to GUI’s. I spent years managing accounting processes, staff, financials, Macs, PC’s, dumb terminals, servers, networks, backups, user permissions, software installations, training, crimping CAT5 cables, building websites, creating custom queries and databases, and developing web apps for dispatch and sales calendars.
I founded Redmond Accounting to provide small businesses a plug and play accounting department. We used QuickBooks Online from the very beginning - for our own company and for our very first client. We also supported clients on various other accounting software platforms, including QuickBooks Desktop, Peachtree, and NetSuite. Over the years, in an effort to streamline our processes and become experts in our work, we narrowed our focus on QuickBooks and eventually solely on QuickBooks Online. Today we are 100% paperless and cloud-based. We provide cloud accounting services via Controllership, for those who want us to do the work in part or entirely...and Consulting, for those who seek support doing the work themselves.
I co-founded Cloud Consultancy with industry colleagues Victoria Cameron & Mark Crews to create apps and custom solutions that further automate manual processes related to running a small business. Each of us runs our own accounting firm from which we draw on experience and ideas for optimizing procedures. We are each advanced certified QuickBooks ProAdvisors and advanced certified Method developers. We created the AERO Workflow app used by accounting firms to manage multiple staff performing multiple recurring tasks for multiple clients.
In addition to the businesses, I am a member of the Intuit Trainer / Writer Network. I co-authored the Intuit ProAdvisor training and certification for QuickBooks Online and enjoy sharing the knowledge and experience I’m learning in the cloud accounting space.
Looking back, my memories are of a cherished childhood in south Louisiana, summer camp in the Smoky Mountains, college in SoCal, art classes at the Louvre, history lessons in Vienna, and backpacking through Europe. Finally, as the tech industry was booming, San Francisco was calling, and I settled in.
Some of you may know my husband, business partner and advanced certified ProAdvisor, John Redmond, from conferences and Linked In...and as your peer and colleague. John and I have two young boys, Jack and Bobby. (Figure 2) We fill every possible moment with them. They are often in our office, familiar with much of our lingo, pointing out Intuit commercials, popping in unexpectedly on a partner conference (they love a webcam!), and being shushed when the phone rings.
I like to hike, travel, kayak, paddle board, ride horses...and sit around visiting with friends and family (I am one of six siblings). We spend our summers visiting family in New Orleans, Rochester / Adirondacks, and Lake Tahoe. (Figure 3) The school year adds a full schedule of sports and, as a room parent, holiday classroom parties and field trips.
Life is busy, but I wouldn’t change a thing.
