Private sector employment increased by 213,000 jobs from December to January according to the January 2019 ADP National Employment Report®. Broadly distributed to the public each month, free of charge. The ADP National Employment Report is produced by the ADP Research Institute® in collaboration with Moody’s Analytics. The report, which is derived from ADP’s actual payroll data, measures the change in total non-farm private employment each month on a seasonally-adjusted basis.
The report further elaborates job growth by company size and sector as shown below.
Company Size*
Small businesses: 63,000 (1-19 employees: 30,000, 20-49 employees: 32,000)
Medium businesses: 84,000 (50-499 employees: 84,000)
Large businesses: 66,000 (500-900 employees: 33,000, 1000+ employees: 33,000)
Sector*
Goods-producing: 68,000 (the biggest of which was construction at 35,000, followed by manufacturing at 33,000. Natural resources/mining was the only sector to report a loss of jobs at -1,000)
Service-providing - 145,000 (the biggest of which were Professional/business services at 46,000, Education & Health at 38,000, Leisure & Hospitality at 31,000, Trade/transportation/utilities at 13,000, Financial Activities at 11,000, Information at 4,000 and Other services at 2,000)
