Private sector employment increased by 230,000 jobs from August to September according to the September 2018 ADP National Employment Report®. Broadly distributed to the public each month, free of charge. The ADP National Employment Report is produced by the ADP Research Institute® in collaboration with Moody’s Analytics. The report, which is derived from ADP’s actual payroll data, measures the change in total non-farm private employment each month on a seasonally-adjusted basis.
The report further elaborates job growth by company size and sector as shown below.
Company Size
Small businesses – 56,000 (1-19 employees - 35,000, 20-49 employees - 21,000)
Medium businesses - 99,000 (50-499 employees - 99,000)
Large businesses - 75,000 (500-900 employees - 26,000, 1000+ employees - 49,000)
Sector
Goods-producing - 46,000 (the biggest of which was manufacturing at 19,000)
Service-providing - 184,000 (the biggest of which were Professional/business services at 70,000, Education & Health at 44,000, Trade/transportation/utilities at 30,000, Leisure & Hospitality and Financial Activities both increased by 16,000)
